SUMMARY:ELRIG - Outside the norm: Engineering biology for drug discovery
DESCRIPTION:Synthetic biology and engineered biological systems are accelerating drug development\, enabling new classes of medicines\, and unlocking previously undruggable targets. This forum will explore how “new to nature molecules” and rapid protein and genome engineering are being leveraged to enable novel therapeutic modalities and drug delivery approaches\, from Nanosyringes to engineered vaccines and “living cures”. Essential for researchers and pharmaceutical professionals driving next-generation medicine development. \nSchedule: \nThursday\, November 13\, 2025 \n\n\n\n\n10:00 AM – 10:30 AM\nRegistration & Coffee\n\n\n10:30 AM – 10:35 AM\nHost Site Welcome\n\n\n10:35 AM – 10:40 AM\nELRIG Welcome\n\n\n10:40 AM – 10:45 AM\nForum Director Welcome\n\n\n10:45 AM – 11:10 AM\nSpeaker – Jonathan Kwok (Infinitopes Ltd)\n\n\n11:10 AM – 11:15 AM\nTechnology Spotlight – #1\n\n\n11:15 AM – 11:20 AM\nTechnology Spotlight – #2\n\n\n11:20 AM – 11:45 AM\nSpeaker – Livija Deban (Prokarium Ltd)\n\n\n11:45 AM – 12:15 PM\nMorning refreshment break\n\n\n12:15 PM – 12:40 PM\nSpeaker – Matt Balmforth (Sortera)\n\n\n12:40 PM – 12:55 PM\nForum Partner\n\n\n12:55 PM – 1:20 PM\nSpeaker – Daniel de la Torre (Constructive Biology)\n\n\n1:20 PM – 1:25 PM\nTechnology Spotlight -#3\n\n\n1:25 PM – 2:20 PM\nRefreshment break\n\n\n2:20 PM – 2:25 PM\nAfternoon Session Welcome\n\n\n2:25 PM – 2:50 PM\nSpeaker – Joe Healey (NanoSyrinx)\n\n\n2:50 PM – 2:55 PM\nTechnology Spotlight – #4\n\n\n2:55 PM – 3:00 PM\nTechnology Spotlight -#5\n\n\n3:00 PM – 3:25 PM\nSpeaker – #6\n\n\n3:25 PM – 3:30 PM\nTechnology Spotlight – #6\n\n\n3:30 PM – 5:00 PM\nNetworking\n\n\n\n\n  \nAttendees: \nJay Champaneri \nRiaan Fox \n

SUMMARY:Engineering Recombinant Proteins for Structural and Functional Studies
DESCRIPTION:This training event will explore strategies for producing high-quality\, pure\, and homogenous recombinant proteins—essential for both structural and functional studies. Aimed at early career researchers\, this introductory session is the first in a series of three protein-focused training events organised by the Biochemical Society. \nIt will cover: \n\nThe latest bioinformatic tools for construct design and protein characterisation\nPractical tips to improve expression\, purification\, and stability\nMethods for assessing protein quality using biophysical techniques\n\n  \nThis training will have a high level of participation including: \n\nParticipants are encouraged to bring their own proteins for analysis using the latest instrumentation and software.\nPoster presentations and oral communications are available at this event. You may simply present your project background with preliminary results or troubleshoot specific protein-related challenges to get feedback from with experts and peers. If you have not yet submitted an abstract for the conference why not do so now? Click here to submit an abstract\n\n  \nKey learning objectives: \n\nTo demonstrate knowledge of the full pathway of protein construct design\, expression\, purification\, and characterisation\nTo describe the principles and applications of bioinformatic and biophysical approaches to their research\, and to have the opportunity to collect and analyse data on their protein of interest\nTo understand how to optimise and evaluate protein expression and purification\n\n  \nSchedule: \nTuesday              18/11/2025       09:00 – 17:00 \nWednesday       19/11/2025       09:00 – 16:00 \n  \nAttendees: \nJay Champaneri \nRiaan Fox
