SUMMARY:Protein Purification and Biophysical Characterisation 2026 - University of Bedfordshire\, Luton\, UK
DESCRIPTION:Protein Purification and Biophysical Characterisation 2026 – University of Bedfordshire\, Luton\, UK\nProtein purification and biophysical characterisation of the resulting protein are two major disciplines in modern biochemistry; both widely used in basic academic research and in industry. \nThe equipment used to purify proteins continues to evolve in both functionality and utility. \nThis training course\, hosted at the University of Bedfordshire’s STEM Building\, aims to expose participants to the latest hardware required for protein purification and biophysical measurements. \nAttendees will gain hands-on experience of cell lysis using: \n\nthe CF1 cell disrupter from Constant Systems\nprotein purification using AKTA systems and Unicorn software. \nthe analysis of protein – ligand interactions using the Nano Temper Monolith \nand the new multi wavelength Beckman Coulter Life Sciences Optima analytical ultracentrifuge (AUC). \n\nShort lectures will provide background theory on the techniques used. \nSpeaker list \nTBC \nSchedule: \nTBC \nAttendees: \nJay Champaneri \nRiaan Fox \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Designer Biology ’26 :From proteins and cells to scaffolds and materials
DESCRIPTION:The Designer Biology ’26 meeting will be the fifth edition of this event co-organised by the European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB) Bioengineering and Bioprocessing Division and the EFB Biobased Materials Division. The event will be held on 29-31 July 2026 in Newcastle upon Tyne\, UK. \nThe Designer Biology meeting brings together young and established scientists working in the fields of bioengineering\, synthetic biology\, and biomaterials\, in a friendly\, inclusive\, diverse\, and lively atmosphere. The attendees discuss different applications ranging from the engineering of proteins to the engineering of functionalized materials. While the larger umbrella used in these fields is similar\, the specific aspects are different\, and our aim is to bring different disciplines together in one meeting to strongly benefit the bioengineering community at large and give rise to synergies and opportunities for new collaborations. \nOur format brings together a list of renowned international speakers\, with shorter presentations from early career researchers and interactive poster presentations. The meeting will take place in Newcastle upon Tyne on Newcastle University’s Helix campus\, in the excellent Frederick Douglass Centre. Notably\, this venue overlooks one of Newcastle’s most famous landmarks\, St James’ Park. \nSchedule: \nTuesday              29th of July 2026             13:00 – 19:30 \nWednesday       30th of July 2026             09:00 – 18:00 \nThursday             31st of July 2026             09:00 – 17:00 \nAttendees: \nRiaan Fox \n
