The Designer Biology ’25 meeting will be the fifth edition of this event co-organised by the European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB) Bioengineering and Bioprocessing Division and the EFB Biobased Materials Division. The event will be held on 29-31 July 2025 in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.
The Designer Biology meeting brings together young and established scientists working in the fields of bioengineering, synthetic biology, and biomaterials, in a friendly, inclusive, diverse, and lively atmosphere. The attendees discuss different applications ranging from the engineering of proteins to the engineering of functionalized materials. While the larger umbrella used in these fields is similar, the specific aspects are different, and our aim is to bring different disciplines together in one meeting to strongly benefit the bioengineering community at large and give rise to synergies and opportunities for new collaborations.
Our format brings together a list of renowned international speakers, with shorter presentations from early career researchers and interactive poster presentations. The meeting will take place in Newcastle upon Tyne on Newcastle University’s Helix campus, in the excellent Frederick Douglass Centre. Notably, this venue overlooks one of Newcastle’s most famous landmarks, St James’ Park.
